We thank God for mercifully sparing the life of this little guy- a one month old Tarahumara baby boy. He arrived to our hospital 5 days ago- struggling to breathe, grey, and unresponsive, with oxygen saturations of 50%. It’s getting cold up in the Copper Canyon and many children are arriving with bronchiolitis and pneumonia. In that moment, I was almost certain we would have to start chest compressions. Thankfully, he responded quickly to supplemental oxygen and his color returned. Had he arrived any later he would have certainly died. After a few days of round-the-clock care in our “pediatric ICU” (a stretcher pulled up to the main nursing desk), he is cooing, smiling, and getting love from his mom. We are so thankful for moments when we see the touch of the Great Physician in these little lives.
“The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases;
His mercies never come to an end;
they are new every morning;
great is Your faithfulness.”
Lamentations 3:22-23
